It’s mid-August and the tendrils on either side of these melons had dried up so I decided it was time to harvest them. For some reason, I’ve always preferred my watermelon with seeds. Perhaps it’s a sweeter flavor or perhaps the flavor is sweeter because it reminds me of the melons of my childhood. It’s impossible to tell from the picture but these melons are about 8 inches in diameter. Both of my girls were sweating their rear ends off at dance tonight so I surprised them each with their own mini melon. In the words of Emma — SWEET! And I have five more on the vine.

JEALOUS! I've tried several times to grow these, but they never make it past seedling stage… I'll have to try again next year!
Welcome back Beckster! Heat and water are key. If you don't have a really sunny, warm location they just won't grow fast enough, at least not here in the Northeast. I grew 8 plants and only ended up with seven melons; oh but what melons they are. These sugar babies we great because they didn't take up nearly as much a space as their larger brethren. Then again, there is something almost magical about growing a 35 lb water"beast". Next year I will try growing these on a cucumber trellis and tying up the melons with my wife's discarded panty hose (always recycle
)
You're right-on with seeded melons. Hhmmm – dare say you'll need another source for your "tying up." Prehaps your MIL?
