The mantra at mediaOrganic is that “small changes, added together, can make a big difference”. This simple philosophy scales beautifully to work at every level, from the individual to the global. In the process of compiling this list it became evident to us that being green really is nothing more than simply making a few smarter choices, about our diets, our bodies, our money, our time. When we make green choices, we aren’t just helping the environment, we’re also helping ourselves. So, in a mediaOrganic homage to David Letterman, here now is our list of five things you can do today to reduce your environmental footprint counting down from number 5:

Eat Less Meat
This is not a pitch for vegetarianism or veganism, it is simply a recognition that large-scale animal production introduces tremendous stresses on our environment not to mention the animals. Would it really be a problem if meat doubled or tripled in price if it meant that the animals were treated more humanely and were raised using environmentally sound and sustainable practices? Most of us would eat less of it too, helping to lower our collective cholesteral levels. Here are some ideas for sustainable meat consumption:
- Purchase your meat from a local grower who practices sustainable organic animal husbandry.
- Buy organic meats. You will pay more but you will be getting better quality.
- Limit your meat consumption to two or three nights a week.
- Get most of your protein from renewable food sources such as eggs, cheese, beans and whole grains.
- Designate one or two nights a week a seafood night. Yes, this introduces other moral dilemmas due to the worldwide decline in fish stocks as well as the environmental impact of large scale fish farming.
- Make eating meat a special occasion so you can splurge on more expensive and organic cuts.

Cyber glitch – uanble to get past # 5. Feel certain the other deserve due thought. Acknowledging the "big picture" is difficult for some.
An intentional glitch – the remaining items in this series will roll out over the next 4 days. You'll just have to be patient.
