Garden Week in Review

it's so darn hot!No question, the story of the week is the weather. At mediaOrganic, temperatures on Friday July 22nd reached a blistering 105°F in the shade. Although we provided plenty of water, not all of our plants displayed the same fortitude as our tomatoes, eggplants, watermelons and peppers which seem to have taken it all in stride with hardly a trace of wilt. Most vulnerable were our containered plants which seemed to suffer even with an ample supply of water.

at 105 degrees, containered cucumbers succumbed to the heatMy containered cucumbers were hardest hit. Basically, I think that the roots were boiled.

With the coming of summer my blogging has taken a bit of a back seat to other outdoors activities while my fellow gardening bloggers have, it seems, increased their blogging activities. I am green with envy over how lush and beautiful their gardens look and how free from insect damage and diverse are their harvests. Meanwhile, activity at mediaOrganic is light. We’re getting a lot of summer squash and some side shoots from our broccoli but most other crops are taking their good sweet time to ripen.
