the sprouts show the planting planAfter four solid days of rain most of the seeds I planted last Sunday have sprouted providing a nice outline of the planting plan described in an earlier post. The radishes, turnips, mizuna and arugula have all come up. The lettuces are laggards but I suspect that’s because the seed was pelleted and it took an extra day or so for the moisture to penetrate the outer coating. They actually have sprouted but they are so small that you can’t yet see them in the photo. I admit to being heavy handed with the seed. …continue reading

planting plan for square bedI cleaned out what was left of my acorn squash plants and even found a surprise squash hidden in the undergrowth. With the bed completely clean I was able to do some soil maintenance. I broke up and dug under the remainder of the grass mulch I had laid down back in June. I also returned the soil levels to normal by adding four full wheel barrows of additional top soil from the pile that’s been growing weeds in my driveway since the spring. Finally …continue reading
