…or why we should finally admit that the income tax is broken and move to a consumption-based tax system.
The year is winding down and once again I am looking forward to doing my taxes. Not looking forward as in “a sense of joyous anticipation” but rather looking ahead with sense of fear and dread. That’s because over the past few years my wife and I have come to learn about the dark side of our convoluted, unfair and overly-complex income tax code.
Before you pass judgement let me clarify that we’ve never been in trouble with the IRS but we’ve lost many thousands of dollars due to “bizarreness” in the tax code. So it’s time for me to break bread with my Libertarian counterparts and demand that we as a nation adopt a simpler, more humane and more sane system for collecting taxes. …continue reading
