mediaOrganic is a chronicle of one suburban family’s efforts to reconnect with our agrarian past, to relearn many of the truths about living and life that our grandparents took for granted and that have been overshadowed by technology in the name of progress. It’s an opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with the cycle of life and the satisfaction of growing one’s own food from seed packet to table, from egg to omlet. Most of all, it’s about celebrating simplicity and the sheer wonder of nature that your can find right outside your own door if only you are willing to recognize it.
The name “mediaOrganic” speaks to the aspirations of this web site. As the site expands you should see more media find its way in. Though we are not technically organic gardeners we employ organic gardening techniques as much as is practicable given our hectic “dual-careers with two preteen daughters” lifestyle. We grow from organic seed when possible but are not above buying conventional seedlings from the local garden center when our own have fallen victim to cutworms. Hardcore organophiles will no doubt spot a litany of transgressions and we welcome any suggestions for improving our practices (although we also reserve the right to ignore them).
In addition to our own garden we are members of a community-supported agrictulture project called Powisset Farm in Dover, MA run by The Trustees of Reservations.
