I once heard Michael Pollan describe his efforts to eat only locally grown food. Even he had to finally admit that it is not realistic or even possible to source your entire food supply locally year round (at least in most parts of this country). My goal is much more modest. It is to try to incorporate something from my garden into at least one meal, and hopefully more, every day during this growing season. Even that is not quite as easy as it at first sounds. At the moment, the only items I have to choose from are chives and early asparagus but they both work just fine in my daily omelet made with eggs from our chickens. Last week we planted some lettuces that should be ready to contribute in a few more weeks and we have other herbs (mint, thyme) that are just coming up.

I just realized that I can also use dandelion greens in my salads. No shortage of those this time of year :>)
